The Bɛnpaali Team is excited to present our second annual film festival. Under the Festival’s overarching motif of #storiesthatmatter, the theme for this year’s Call for Films is Contemporary Artivism.
Contemporary refers to 1: living or occurring at the same time (an historian recording an event of their time) and 2: what’s existing or happening now.
The artivist (artist + activist) uses her/his artistic talents to fight and struggle against injustice–by any medium necessary. The artivist merges commitment to freedom and justice with the pens the lens, the brush, the voice, the body and the imagination. The artivist knows that to make an observation is to have an obligation. (M.K. Asante)
We are looking for films that explore such ideas as:
The role of art in creating social change
Artivism that challenges your thinking or inspires you
Unsung heroes/heroines and artivists
The deadline for entering a film is 8 June 2016. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to request for submission form.
